Polyfest 2025: A Celebration of Culture , Colour and Community!

Polyfest 2025: A Celebration of Culture , Colour and Community!

Polyfest 2025 was, as usual, a huge undertaking for students, coaches, teachers, and whānau. The dedication and pride of students as they celebrated and shared their culture with the community was heartwarming.

This year, our talented students proudly performed across five stages: the Diversity Stage, Cook Island Stage, Tongan Stage, Samoan Stage, and Niuean Stage. Each group brought passion and pride to the festival, showcasing the cultural diversity that makes our communities so special.

For weeks leading up to the big event, students dedicated hours after school and on weekends to perfect their performances. Whether it was dance, song, costume making, or learning traditional chants, the commitment of students was complete. Behind every student was a team of dedicated tutors, teachers, and families who poured their time and energy into every practice session. The support from whānau was invaluable. Parents and caregivers cooked, sewed costumes, transported students, and attended practices, providing encouragement and support.

Despite some terrible weather and delays on the day, our teams could not be deterred. They went on stage determined to give their very best performances for the supporters who had braved the rain, mud and delays. They were not disappointed; every group performed magnificently. None more so than the Niuean group who as previously reported, won 7 categories and were 3rd overall in the big schools competition.

All of the students who performed should feel proud of their achievements.

To everyone who participated, supported, or cheered from the crowd—thank you. Onehunga High School is very proud of you all.
