Year 12 and 13 Drama students were very fortunate to have an opportunity to learn skills that will not only enhance their performances but more importantly keep them safe.
Students are currently working towards their performance, which will be in the Commedia dell'arte style. In Commedia, there is often a lot of slapping and falling over. Drama teacher, Katelyn Coogan enlisted the help of experts from the New Zealand Stage and Screen Combat School, to develop the skills of our drama students, ensuring their performances are convincing and nobody is harmed in the process.
Industry expert Alexander Holloway, led students through a series of exercises, demonstrating how professional actors make realistic theatre. Our drama students can now enact slapping, choking, hair pulling and shoving with frightening reality.
We look forward to seeing their newly acquired skills in their upcoming performances.
