Senior Awards Ceremony 2024

The highlight of the school year for many is the Senior Awards Ceremony, which is a formal celebration of the outstanding achievements of so many of our students.

 The Senior Award ceremony attended by senior students, staff and guests was held in the school gym on Friday.

 The ceremony began with a Karakia and Mihimihi. The OHS Kapa Haka group performed the Waiata Tautoko. 

 In her opening address, Principal Shameen Hayat explained how proud she was of our students and their many and varied achievements. She commended students on having faced challenges and learned lessons that have shaped them into the incredible individuals they are. Ms Hayat’s full address will be published on this website.

Bethany Morgan and Megan Webb performed a dance called ‘’ I Miss You” to a captivated audience. The OHS group, Aria’s Circus performed “Die With a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Thank you to Aria van Dolleweerd, Cameron Ross, Peter Muller, Elliot Wyness, Jarvis Skilling and Nu’ufou Telea. Paul Auvaa performed a dance called, “A Solo” that left the audience gasping at his athleticism and creativity.

Many talented and hardworking students were recognised for their achievements in three categories; academic excellence, outstanding effort and service to the school. Congratulations to all award winners. 

 A huge thank you must be made to those individuals, groups and institutions who continue to support our young people by providing the scholarships that we can award to deserving students to help them continue with tertiary study. We are humbled by and grateful for your ongoing support of our students.

We would especially like to acknowledge the following prestigious award winners:

Dux Litterarum- is the most prestigious academic award. It signifies the top achiever for 2024.  The 2024 Dux Litterarum is Cameron Ross. Congratulations Cameron.    

Proxime Accessit- This is awarded to the student who is runner-up to Dux and represents outstanding academic achievement. The 2024 Proxime Accessit is Scarlet Nguyen.

Year 12 Top Scholar- is awarded to the Year 12  student with the highest academic achievement. Congratulations Emerson Rockell.

Dux Ludorum- This is awarded to a student who has demonstrated outstanding sporting Achievements . The 2024 Dux Ludorum is Lisa Hellyer.      

Jubilee Cup - This cup recognises a student who in words and deeds reflects the school motto of  “by loyalty and courage” and who has upheld the values this motto represents. The 2024 recipient is Aria van Dolleweerd.                            

Humanitarian Award - This award is given to students nominated by staff, who have unselfishly given their time to improve the lives of others. This year we had two recipients, TJ Gaogao and Magdalene Ieremia-Apelu.          

People’s Choice Award-  is awarded to the Year 13 student who is voted by their peers to have made the most significant contribution to Year 13 and the student community during their time at OHS - 2024 winner  Nu’ufou Telea.

Dennie Walls Endeavour Cup - is presented to a student who inspires us with their effort, determination and persistence to achieve, despite barriers that are present. This year's recipient is Tj Gaogao.

Head Prefects Magdalene Ieremia-Apelu and Cameron Ross reflected on their time at OHS. They observed how much their cohorts had grown and changed as a result of all the opportunities and challenges they had faced. Both students are grateful for the friendships and camaraderie of their peers. They thanked the prefect team, staff, and their Dean Ms Huri for their support and guidance.

We wish to thank our graduating class of 2024 for the wonderful contribution that they have made to life at OHS and sincerely wish them well for the exciting journey ahead.
