Level 1 Drama students performed an abridged version of Oscar Wildes, ‘The Importance of Being Earnest” to delighted audiences last night.
The Importance of Being Earnest is a play by Oscar Wilde, first performed in 1895. The play tells the story of two men, Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, who both assume the identity of a fictional man named Ernest, leading them both to fall in love and find an assortment of problems along the way.
The abridged format kept the story engaging and fast-moving, highlighting key moments and famous lines. Students delivered these lines with great comedic timing drawing plenty of laughs from the audience for gems like,"The truth is rarely pure and never simple, or "In matters of grave importance, style, not sincerity, is the vital thing," or a particular favourite,"To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness."
This was a fun night, showcasing the students' talents and keeping the audience smiling.
Congratulations to Reese Kilpatrick, Leo Kelly, Lara Aitchison, Vicky Guan, Ellen Loftus, Hayden Chandler, Chengyu Lan, Angel Harris, Leylanee Tongotongo and Phoebe Tutt.
