Pasifika Awards Ceremony 2024

The inaugural Pasifika Awards evening held last Friday at school was a wonderful evening of celebration. It was a real privilege to share with students and their families the successes of so many. A huge faafetai tele lava to everyone who attended and congratulations to everyone who received an award.

We would like to congratulate the following Trophy winners especially:

Jaanvi Lingham- Academic Excellence.

Jaanvi  was recognised for her outstanding academic achievements. She has secured an impressive 30 Excellence and 21 Merit credits, at Level 3 across her subjects, including endorsements in Biology, Chemistry, Media, Mathematics with Statistics and Physics.

Pupi Ah Lam-  Embodies All School Values.

Pupi is a Year 13 student who has been a wonderful role model within our school community. Pupi embodies humility and leads by example, holding to our school values of Excellence, Integrity, Loyalty and Courage.

Roy Ah Lam- Embodies All School Values.

Roy, serves as our Deputy Head Boy. He is an exceptional leader and a valued member of the OHS community. Roy leads by example. His dedication, kindness and unwavering commitment to excellence make him a role model for his peers.

Janice Nair & Riya Chettier- Service To Others

Both Riya and Janice embody the true spirit of service. Whether organizing events, volunteering for school initiatives, or supporting their peers, Janice and Riys consistently go above and beyond to create a positive impact. 

Nu’ufou Telea- Pride in Culture.

Nu’ufou Embodies the school values in every aspect of school life. A proud advocate for his heritage, he actively supports language weeks and Polyfest and demonstrates his commitment to celebrating diversity and cultural understanding.

Denayla Tavui- Pride in Culture.

Denayla is recognised for her exceptional commitment to celebrating and sharing her culture within our school community, and her dedication to fostering inclusivity which has enriched our school community.

Athena Ngutu- Resilience.

Athena is recognised for her remarkable resilience and unwavering determination. Athena exemplifies strength and courage, qualities we celebrate in our students.

Tj Gaogao- Health Science

Tj is recognised for his exceptional contributions and service to OHS. His inspiring journey showcases the transformative power of hard work and dedication in the face of challenges. TJ received the FOU Leadership Award.

Tali Feu’u- Emerging Leader.

We celebrate Tali’s determined advocacy for the betterment of Maori and Pasifika students.Tali embodies leadership through his actions and words driven by a genuine passion to uplift his Maori and Pasifika peers.

Alofa Lawrence- Emerging Leader.

Alofa is recognised for her exceptional contributions to our school community. Alofa demonstrates kindness and compassion, always making time to support her peers, demonstrating her selflessness and collaborative spirit.

Magdalene Iremia- Apelu- Outstanding Leadership.

Magdalene is an exceptional leader and role model. She leads by example with grace, enthusiasm and humility. She is our Head Girl, leader of the Hauora Council, student librarian, peer support mentor, and a proud representative of the Pasifika community. 

Nui Tixier- Junior Pasifika Sportsman of the Year.

Nui is a remarkable athlete. He was awarded MVP for the Football Junior A Boys and played for the Volleyball Premier Boys’. He is on the Sports Council. His hard work and sportsmanship are inspirational.

Kala Ofanoa- Junior Pasifika Sportswoman of the Year.

Kala demonstrates remarkable skill and dedication across a variety of sports. She is an invaluable member of the Senior Volleyball team. She plays in the Year 10 Netball team and was a key player in Basketball playing in the Senior Girls’ team in the Northern region Cup.

TK Short- SeniorPasifika Sportswomen of the Year.

TK is recognised for exceptional dedication and leadership in various sports, both as a player and coach. She exemplifies the spirit of community and excellence we value at OHS.TK played in the Premier Senior Girls’ Volleyball team, excelled in the Girls’ Tag team and significantly contributed to athletics by assisting in organising events and coaching her peers.

Nu’ufou Telea- Senior Pasifika Sportsman of the Year.

Nu’ufou has consistently demonstrated excellence in sports, earning him MVP for the Volleyball Premier Boys. He has made significant contributions as a referee and coach showcasing his leadership and commitment to the development of others. Nu’ufou has served as a prefect leading the sports council.

Annabelle Kormoczi- Arts.

Annabelle is a talented young artist, highly skilled and motivated. She is an excellent role model, inspiring others with her passion and dedication.

Andrew Havilli- Most Improved.

Andrew is recognised for his exceptional contributions to our school community. Whether participating in academic pursuits, engaging in co-curricular activities or supporting his peers he is an excellent role model.

Nuku Uasi- Lea Faka Tonga.

Nuku is recognised as the Tongan student who has achieved his best academically and demonstrates the 4 pillars of the Tongan culture.

Denayla Tavui- Gagana Samoa

Denayla is recognised as the Samaoan student who demonstrates excellence in Samoan and adds great value in Gagana Samoa.

Tj Gaogao- Loyalty and Courage.

We proudly recognise Tj for consistently demonstrating outstanding loyalty and courage. Whether standing up for his peers, facing challenges with confidence, or remaining true to his values, Tj exhibits a profound sense of responsibility and integrity. He serves as an inspiration, motivating those around him to embrace their own journeys with determination and hope.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this evening such a success. Thank you to the Hon Carmel Sepuloni, for attending the ceremony and for her inspirational speech encouraging students to be resilient and determined in their pursuit of their goals. Thank you to the Pasifika Komiti, for their guidance and support of our students. A huge fa’amalo and thank you to Deputy Principal Bex Muipu for her organisation of this evening.
