Shea Mendis, Lily Shultz, Arlo Gould, Jacob Henderson, William Ford-Evans and Chloe Simmons, had already won the Auckland Region STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) category of Tournament of Minds. Last week they travelled to Wellington to compete in the final and placed 2nd, very narrowly missing out on 1st place.
On this occasion, they were tasked with making a rubber band-powered car that would travel 60cm up a ramp and continue for at least 30cm. The teams were locked in a room, so there could be no external help and had just 3 hours to complete the challenge. In addition they had 10 minutes to write a presentation script and perform a dramatic piece that was the backstory to why the car was going up the ramp!
We would like to congratulate this team who have proved to be excellent at collaborative problem-solving and critical thinking.
A fantastic effort! We are very proud of you. Thanks to Mr Loveridge for making the trip possible.
