Tourists For A Day.

Tourists For A Day.

In preparation for completing their coursework, Level 3 Travel and Tourism students became tourists for the day. Perhaps not their usual choice of tourist activity, students visited two historical sites, Tuakau’s Alexandra Redoubt, and Rangiriri Pā.

These destinations would be interesting to people wanting to know more about the Māori land wars; some of the fiercest battles were fought in the Waikato. The Alexandra Redoubt is the best preserved of the Waikato Redoubts, built by the British Forces during the New Zealand land wars. The Rangiriri Pā, was built by Māori to block the advance of the British.

Students have to describe the visitor experience at both locations and compare them, describing the positives and negatives of both.

Whether these were destinations they would normally choose for themselves or not, students enjoyed the day and now have a better understanding of the land wars and how they were fought.
