Duke of Edinburgh Adventure Weekend.

Duke of Edinburgh Adventure Weekend.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an award for young people, founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by the then Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip.

Young people in 144 countries now participate in this challenging programme designed to develop skills and tools to improve themselves and their communities.

Mrs Kate Crews, is leading a group of our students’ who are working toward their Bronze Award.

Last weekend, students’ ventured to the Kauaeranga Valley and stayed overnight in the Pinnacles hut. This was a practice tramp for the Adventurous Journey requirement of the award.

This was a challenging tramp for some of the novice participants, who learnt some valuable lessons. They learnt that you must carry enough water and you must bring enough to eat!  On the next tramp some students’ may have more sustenance and fewer changes of clothes!

Everyone completed the tramp and had a great experience. They are looking forward to the planned qualifying tramp, where they will get experience in map reading and camp craft.

Thank you to Mrs. Crews for her work with these students. Well done to everyone who completed the first tramp!
