Go Well Mr Eastwood!

Go Well Mr Eastwood!

After 35 years of service at OHS Mr David Eastwood will spend next term on sabbatical.

Mr Eastwood never imagined when he started at OHS, straight from Training College in 1989, that he would still be at OHS 35 years later! He has worked for all four of the school's Principals. He did try to leave on several occasions but was lured back by the Principal of the day.

Mr Eastwood began his career teaching Design Technology and PE. He went on to become Assistant Head of  Technology, Head of Technology, then Head of the Building School and he is now Head of both Technology and the Building School.

Mr Eastwood coached rugby and football teams for 27 years, several of his teams won titles over this time.

Former students will have fond memories of Mr Eastwood as an enthusiastic contributor to school camps over many years.

Mr Eastwood has a particular affinity for our school community; he was raised in the area and is now teaching the children of his former pupils. His genuine care for students has seen him on many occasions supporting vulnerable students outside of school. This manaakitanga is evidenced by the number of past pupils, who have kept in touch with Mr Eastwood over the years. He has great pride in students from the Building school who have gone on to have successful careers in the building and allied sectors. Many of these people come back to mentor pupils and employ them in their businesses.

Mr Eastwood will spend the term visiting schools with Building and Construction departments and he and his wife have a much anticipated trip to the UK planned.

We hope he has a wonderful time and look forward to having him back in term four.
