Business Students' Busy In Wellington.

Business Students' Busy In Wellington.

The HOD of Business, Mrs Ng, Level 2 teacher of Economics Mrs Younger, Mr Andrei Colquhoun and nineteen Level 2 Business students returned from a two day trip to Wellington last Friday night.

The itinerary designed by Mrs Ng was very busy and was filled with experiences that not only broadened the horizons of students, many of whom had never visited our Capital city, but importantly provided a valuable context for concepts taught in the classroom. This knowledge will be invaluable for completing NCEA assessments and for the final exams.

Students visited the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), where they were addressed by the Strategic Economics Policy team, who explained how currencies are traded and the role the Reserve Bank has in setting interest rates. They visited the ANZ trading room and were very excited by the atmosphere in the room where millions of dollars were being traded. They were very interested to find out from the Commerce Commission that they had the power to serve search warrants and raid businesses that were breaking the law. The command centre of the WREMO’ Wellington Regional Emergency Management was fascinating for students. On a visit to Mojo Roastery who were roasting coffee, students heard first hand how government  policies impact business. While visiting Parliament, local MP the Hon.Greg Flemming made time to meet students, who learnt of his journey to parliament. Students also had the opportunity to visit the Business and Law schools of Victoria University.

The final stop on the agenda was a well deserved visit to Te Papa.

Grateful thanks to the OHS Business School Advisory Board for their support of this trip.
