Former students of the OHS Building School, find themselves well prepared for work. Alumni include builders, plumbers, electricians and roofers, a number of whom now run their own businesses both here and in Australia.
Three successful graduates of the OHS building school have returned to put the roof on the student-built house. Vaughan Cook, who now runs his own company, Vaughan Cook Roofing, is regarded as one of New Zealand's top roofers, having won Young Roofer of the Year in 2020. Vaughan employs fellow building school alumni William Duncan and Alex Webb. All three are immensely grateful for the opportunity they had at Onehunga High School to spend a year in the building school, describing it as their best school year ever. They credit this experience with setting them on a path of learning and higher education that met their needs. Current students are thrilled to work with and learn from these successful former students, finding inspiration in their achievements and career paths.
