It was pleasing to see students participating in the Kei Runga Ki Mua programme facilitated by Icebase (theicebase.com) in their lunch break.
This pilot programme aims to further equip tauira with tools and skills to navigate post school study or employment. They will participate in lunchtime wānanga and may also be offered paid opportunities in the school holidays for work exposure/experience.
The first wānanga facilitated by Koro Carman (Ngāti Pākau, Ngāi Tu) was held today in the careers space. Students were encouraged to start making a plan for their next steps, while acknowledging that plans will change and that is normal. To begin, students were encouraged to think about what their core values are and what their individual strengths are, as these will inform the choices they make.
The students’ taking part were enthusiastic and intelligent in their approach to the questions they were asked. They will build on the lessons learnt in the wānanga to follow.
