Students Shine at World Vision Conference.

Students Shine at World Vision Conference.

Nathan Marshall 10Gr, Semelisi Taufahema 12Foss, Hannah Hamilton-Ralph 13To, Natajsha Lui 13Kr and Rylee Williams 13Co accompanied by Ms Natalya French recently attended the World Vision Conference. Ms French was very impressed by the wisdom of our students.

Ms French reports.

On Tuesday I had the pleasure of taking Nathan, Semelisi, Natajsha, Hannah and Rylee to the World Vision conference at Trusts Arena. The focus was on leadership and the global impact of climate change, with Timor Leste being the focus. We also discussed the upcoming 40 Hour Challenge.

And our students were so great!

There was a particular moment where they asked how much the students were aiming for their school to raise. The amounts climbed until everyone was topped by a pledge of 150k. Our students looked at each other a bit shocked, but then during discussion they said that our strength wasn’t in status and monetary gains, but in percentage of students that they would encourage to get involved and how they knew that our greater community would also take part. They said that their focus would be on many, making small changes and contributions and being aware of the issue, rather than a few donating large amounts. I loved that they weren’t overwhelmed by what other school have access to, but instead looked at what sets OHS apart.
