Alec Insley 13 KR is one of the rising stars of New Zealand Midget car racing. He has an impressive 7 podium finishes in this season’s racing. He recently achieved 1st place in the BT Race 4 Mates event and in the Gold Cup. Off the track he must be an ambassador for his sponsors, has public speaking responsibilities and has to help with the maintenance of his race car. He is a very busy young man!
Alec Insley 13KR achieved first place at the BT Race 4 mates event held at the South Island Ruapuna Speedway. The event, which saw 26 Midget speedcar competitors from both North and South Island, was organized in memory of Bryce Townsend, an OHS alumnus and Midget driver. The event is a fundraiser for the Mental Health Foundation. Alec's victory was notable as he competed against experienced drivers who had competed overseas. He also participated in a helmet collection that raised $1218. for the Mental Health Foundation.
Alecs next big event was the Gold Cup. He achieved an impressive result by finishing 3rd overall after the heats. In the 25-lap feature race, the top two grid positions were held by highly experienced midget drivers from New Zealand who have competed internationally, including in America. One of these drivers, Michael Pickens, is a 10-time New Zealand title holder. In the GOLD Cup feature race, Alec excelled by finishing 1st, leading from 20 laps to go until the end of the race!
