Great results at the Auckland Athletic Championships

Mt Smart Stadium played host to the 2024 Auckland Athletic Championships on Tuesday. Onehunga High School had five athletes qualify through from the Central Zone, with three on the track and two in the field.

Ruby Walsh started off the early celebrations claiming 2nd in the Girls 2000m Open Race Walk with a time of 12:53.16m.

Lisa (2:16.20m) & Sarah Hellyer (2:16.72) contested a fast Girls 800m Intermediate final, coming in 2nd & 3rd respectively behind St Kentigern's Imogen Barlow (2.15.71), only 1 second separating them all. The result mirrored the final from the NZ National Track & Field Championships in Wellington two weeks ago.

In the field Denayla Tavui placed 6th in a strong Senior Girls Discus event with a 30.21m into a strong wind. Denayla bounced back to claim 3rd in Senior Girls Shot Put with a best through of 12.52m, beating her qualifying mark by 13cm. Daiana Radrole placed 7th with 10.13m, beating her qualifying mark by almost 1m!

Onehunga High School came away with four medals on the day. A massive success for our small team!
