OHS alumnus Sam Tuifua has worked hard, both on the field and off, to make his dreams come true.
Sam has recently signed a two year deal to play in the back row for the Dallas Jakals, a professional rugby team in Arlington Texas.
Sam has come a long way since captaining the OHS 1st XV in 2018-2019. When he left school he went to play for Grammar Tech for two years, in the number 8 jersey. Both years he was awarded player of the year.
In 2022 Sam moved to Karaka and played for their premier team. It did not take long for the 6’ tall, 114 kg player to be recognised and he was selected for Counties Manukau, where he played from 2021-2023. It was from here that the talented rugby player was asked if he would like to play rugby in the USA for the Dallas Jakals.
When asked what advice he would give to young people he replied, “ The best advice I would give to the younger generation is to surround yourself with the right people, the more time you spend around the right people, the more you will see yourself grow as a person.”
Congratulations Sam and good luck!
