Homestay
Your welfare and safety are important to us. Your parents are sending you far from home for your education and they may be anxious and worried about you while you are in New Zealand. Outstanding homestay and excellent pastoral care is important. All homestays are carefully selected by our homestay manager. You are able to contact the homestay manager at any time.
For your homestay payments you will receive a fully furnished room, including a desk and chair. You will have three meals per day provided and laundry washed. Your care in homestay is closely supervised by our full-time homestay manager.
Please read our homestay rules here.

Designated Caregiver
If you have a family friend or relatives with whom you wish to stay and live during your studies in New Zealand, we can discuss that with you. However, as the school is responsible for your welfare and safety during your time at Onehunga High School, you must live in school-approved accommodation. Please be aware that you must let us know of your choice of accommodation in your application form so that we have enough time to approve any designated caregiver as they are bound by our rules and the Code of Practice.
Live with parents
You can stay in New Zealand with your mother or father. Your parent can apply for a Guardian Visa. However, this visa does not allow the guardian to work while in New Zealand.
Become a homestay family
Onehunga High School regularly recruits caring and responsible homestay families throughout the year. If you have a spare bedroom and would like to share your home and your culture, and show off the beauty of New Zealand to our international students, please complete this form or contact us on 021980718 or email us on [email protected].
IMPORTANT: Students may NOT live alone, or in shared houses with friends, even if they are 18 years old or above.
